“At BMCC we have used GeoMine on the Baobab phosphate project since 2017. When mining began in 2016 there was a large variance between what the block model predicted and what we actually mined, and reconciliation was very difficult. We decided to build our own resource model in-house with GeoMine and compare it with the others. That gave us the answers we had been missing: in one area GeoMine showed no mineralisation where another package showed ore, and when we opened that part of the deposit there was indeed none. From that day we have had high confidence in the GeoMine block model and use it as our primary mine planning software. We still cross-check from time to time, and our most recent comparison against a model produced by external consultants in another leading package was very close.
Having a software package is one thing; support is another. Our team is young and has only a few years of experience with mining software, so support from our supplier is essential.
